Deep in the Peruvian jungle, Dora, the daughter of explorercoles and elena, boots her monkey friends to her days, her cousin Diego and imaginary friends going on the strangling thrill of the Fox thief swayer with backpacks and maps. When Dora and Diego are six years old and Diego goes to live with his family in Los Angeles, Dora’s family lives in search of the hidden Inca town Parapata.
Ten years later, Dora’s parents understand Parapata’s location, but choose to send Dora to DU’s school while travelling to the lost city. Upon staying with Diego’s family, Dora meets fellow students Sammy and Randy, but Diego considers him embarrassed. On a class field trip to a museum, Dora and others lure in to their off-exhibit archives, where they are captured by mercenary merchants who take them to Peru. When they descend, a man named Alejandro, who claims to be a friend of Dora’s parents, helps them escape. In the process, the traders assisted by the swipe stole Dora’s map. Alejandro reports that Dora’s parents have gone missing, and that traders are searching for him in hopes of sneaking into the parapara and stealing his treasure. Dora resolves to find her parents first with the help of Alejandro, while the other comes together in hopes of saving the teenager.
