James Henry Trotter is a young orphan whose parents were eaten by a rhino, forcing them to live with their abusive and domineering aunts, spikers and sponges. James dreamt of seeing New York City and going to the Empire State Building, as his parents wanted to. Back inside, James stumbles and falls the crocodile’s tongue near an old peach tree. A huge peach grows on the tree, and spikers and sponges exploit peaches as a tourist attraction. At night, as James picks up the litter, he enters the interior of the peach through a large hole that is formed when he takes a chalk from the peach to eat it. Within the pit, he confronts and befriends a group of human-sized anthropogenic insects: Mr. Grasshopper, Mister Centiped, Miss Spider, Mister Kenchua, Mrs Ladybug and Gloveworm. As they hear the aunt’s search for James, centipede cuts the stem connecting the peach to the tree and the peach goes into the Atlantic Ocean.
