The genesis of Noddi is explained in the first book. He was built by a woodcutter in a toy shop, but fled after the man made a wooden lion, which scared Noddy. As he wanders through the forest, with no clothes, money or home, he meets big ears, a friendly gnome. Big Ers decided that Noddy is a toy and takes him to stay in Toyland. She generously offers Noddy with a set of clothing and a house. While Nodie is quite happy with being a toy, the citizens of Toyland aren’t sure he’s actually the one. He put Noddy on trial and checked whether he was a toy or an ornament. After all, Noddy is declared a toy, but still he has to explain to the court that he is a good toy. The judge accepts that Nodie is good after a doll tells the court that he saved his little girl from a lion, and is allowed to live in Toyland. In the second book, Noddi gets his car. This is given after helping him solve a local mystery.
